Who we are

The RAD Memorial Coed Softball Team is comprised of civic minded sports enthusiasts--men and women from diverse backgrounds who share a passion and love for the sport of softball. Ultimately, the goals of the team are to raise funds for the RAD Memorial Scholarship fund, to foster community engagement, and to raise awareness about the RAD Memorial Scholarship while having fun playing a sport that we love.

How we got started

The team was first organized during the spring of 2017 when a group of players led by Monica Perez joined the Kennett Coed Softball League looking to have fun.  At the time, we needed a sponsor and RAD Memorial was more than willing to help. Our first year was a huge success!   With a record of 14-6, we were able to sweep the playoffs and win our first ever softball championship!  After basking in the glory of winning our first softball championship and trophy, some of us prepared for spring in the New Castle County Softball League.

During the spring of 2018, we organized a new team under the New Castle County Softball League in (Delaware).  Many of our players were from this region, and we felt it might be more convenient for those who wanted to continue to play. Finally, with the assistance of Joceline Valentin and Chris Dineen, we were able to put together the new team.  Later that spring we would win the division championship (14-3) receiving another trophy but falling short in the playoffs.

The fall 2018 softball season RAD played in the league created by the late Rocky Izzo, also in Delaware. During that season we faced many obstacles. Our record in the fall hovered around the .500 mark (5-5).  Nevertheless, even though we had injuries, conflicts in scheduling, the players’ passion for the sport and commitment to the goals of RAD, willed us through a tough and competitive playoff run.  The result of our efforts allowed us to win our second playoff coed softball championship and trophy!  With the success of previous seasons in each league NCC, DE and Rocky Izzo September Fall League in 2019 we have now graduated to the top division.  Our name has become quite familiar amongst the softball community.  As we played spring and fall softball in the best division we were not able to pull out another championship (9-9 spring) (5-5 fall).  That being said our efforts did not go unnoticed and we competed until the end losing in the playoffs by two great teams.

2022 Summer Softball Season Overview

RAD Memorial is back in what could be its final season.  We have come a long way since we started back in 2017.  We have enjoyed fundraising and spreading the word about the RAD Memorial Scholarship Fund. We have had our ups and downs through the years winning championships and being competitive.    As a lot of our previous players have moved on to do other things that life has provided them, we wish them the best.  This year we are comprised of many new faces who again love the game of softball and share a passion of community engagement.   This year we are excited to have Darius Cubbage as our new manager.   He comes to us with a lot of experience within the game of softball as well his efforts in giving back to the community.   Here are a few words from our new manager.

“It’s an honor and privilege to manage the RAD Memorial softball team given the mission and vision of the foundation. This is my first year with the team, but I have spent the last several years watching and competing against RAD and have always respected what the team stands for and the way they play the game. When I was given an opportunity to join the team, it was a no brainer for me. I am excited about the season and look forward to fielding a competitive team that has been built to make a deep run into the playoffs and compete for a championship.

We would like to thank everyone who is currently participating and those who have contributed in the past.  The team wouldn’t be what it is today without everyone’s effort.  The legacy of Robert A. Davis will continue.
