Purpose

The Robert A. Davis Memorial Scholarship was established in the Fall of 2017 to uphold the legacy for PFC Robert A. Davis.  Bobby, a distinguished alumnus of Oxford Area High School, is the first soldier in Chester County, Pennsylvania, to be mortally wounded in the Vietnam War, on November 15, 1965.

The purpose of the RAD Scholarship award is to encourage and financially assist high school students from the Southeastern Chester County region to study agriculture.  The scope of agriculture includes students who specialize in areas such as nutrition, physical and mental health, business, marketing, animal and plant sciences, engineering, and resource management, among others.  Agriculture plays a large part in the advancement of our economy and is a symbol of American strength and prosperity as well as a pathway to reducing disease and mental health issues in our society.

Awards will be made in the form of outright scholarships based on the decisions of a scholarship review committee. Awardees are asked to give back by choosing a meaningful career path that will use that individual's knowledge and skills to bring the most positive change to people during their lifetime.

Guidelines for Applicants

As the number of applications increases, so does the competition level for receiving a scholarship.  The Robert A. Davis Memorial Scholarship Committee offers the following recommendations for prospective applicants and advisors:

1.  Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors for academic excellence.  The selection committee has established that the minimum unweighted cumulative grade point average for consideration for a scholarship is 3.0.  In addition, the committee looks seriously at the applicant's volunteer activities and their demonstrated commitment to, and preparation for, a particular area of study in nutrition, physical and mental health, business, marketing, animal and plant sciences, engineering, and resource management.

2.  The applicant must demonstrate intent to further their education by applying to and gaining acceptance into college, university or professional training program (Trade School).

3.  At the discretion of the RAD Committee, the minimal individual award will be $750.00 with the goal of providing several students with support to advance their educational goals.

4.  Scholarships are made one time, for a single year, for undergraduate and postsecondary education.

5.  Award checks are distributed to recipients between May 1 and July 30, upon receipt of an official college acceptance letter.  Scholarship checks are made payable ONLY to the institution.  If the awarded student receives FULL tuition and expenses from another source, the Robert A. Davis funds MUST be forfeited.
